PHILADELPHIA—The Republican National Committee pushed back against Democratic claims that Hillary Clinton will be better on foreign policy during a Tuesday press conference.
Trump surrogates who spoke at the press conference said Clinton's tenure as secretary of state was a disaster for U.S. foreign policy and Donald Trump is the leader the country needs. They also said Clinton is benefiting from a rigged system.
Richard Grenell, a former spokesman for several U.S. ambassadors to the United Nations, blamed Clinton’s poor judgement while she was secretary of state for the failed Russian reset. Grenell said he was familiar with the poor decisions made. He added that Clinton's changed course with Russia had allowed for the country to become unleashed and become aggressive.
Both Grenell and Omarosa Manigault, a former reality television star and new director of African American outreach for the Trump campaign, said Clinton’s inaction to list Boko Haram as a terrorist organization was a reason to not elect her as president.
Jose Fuentes, former attorney general for Puerto Rico, said that when Clinton had taken her oath to become secretary of state, the Islamic State terror group did not have the scope and reach that it currently has. Clinton had said that she wanted to focus on fighting al Qaeda. Fuentes added that because of Clinton’s inattention to ISIS, Syria became a breeding ground for terrorists and one of the main exporters of jihadism.
Fuentes gave his speech in both English and Spanish.
The RNC said that it would continue its daily press conferences throughout the DNC.
The organization said that over 500 RNC staffers across the country would provide support wherever needed and keep a focus on engaging voters and grassroots development.
The RNC said that based on polling, there has been a favorable reaction and more money raised since Trump officially became the Republican Party’s nominee last week.
