Planned Parenthood president Cecile Richards said the "most disgusting part" about undercover videos showing officials discussing aborted fetal organs is the pro-life activists who made them were deceitful to get access.
"The most disgusting part of this to me is that these folks lied to gain access to clinics," she said Sunday on ABC’s This Week. "What doctors and clinicians face to actually provide health care for the women in this country is already pretty incredible."
The two videos from the Center for Medical Progress, which have sparked many Republicans to call for a full inquiry, show officials casually discussing how much Planned Parenthood charges to provide the organs of aborted fetuses.
In one, Dr. Deborah Nucatola, the senior director of medical services at Planned Parenthood, discusses which parts of the fetus she will not "crush" to keep important organs intact.
"We’ve been very good at getting heart, lung, liver, because we know that, so I’m not going to crush that part, I’m going to basically crush below, I’m going to crush above, and I’m going to see if I can get it all intact," she said.
Richards apologized for the tone of the videos in a taped statement, but in her interview Sunday with George Stephanopoulos, she was on the attack on behalf of her organization.
Richards called the people behind the videos and other members of the pro-life movement "militant."
"These activists, these militant anti-abortion activists on the other hand, do nothing to improve the health and safety of women," she said.
