Larry Hogan was declared the winner in Maryland's gubernatorial race over Democratic candidate Ben Jealous, making him the first Republican to win reelection in the state in more than half a century.
Hogan, first elected in 2014, has become one of the most popular governors in the country. He was declared the winner over Jealous almost immediately as the polls closed on Tuesday night. The last time a Republican governor won reelected in Maryland was 1954.
Jealous was labeled a far-left radical early on by Hogan, who was a surprise winner back in 2014.
