Republicans hold a steady lead in the race to fill retiring Sen. Saxby Chambliss (R., Ga.) seat, according to a new poll.
The Atlanta Journal Constitution reports:
A new NYT/CBS/YouGov.com poll of battleground states shows Republican David Perdue well ahead of Democrat Michelle Nunn in the U.S. Senate race, 47 to 41 percent. Libertarian Amanda Swafford obtains a 3 percent sliver.
Not good news for a candidate who expects to spend the day touring Atlanta at the side of first lady Michelle Obama.
The six-point lead is three points above the margin of error.
The latest poll is consistent with earlier surveys conducted in July and August, which placed Perdue 6 and 9 points ahead.
On average, Perdue leads Nunn by 2.6 percent, according to the RealClearPolitics average.
The seat is one Democrats hope to flip in November. This week Nunn will receive help from notable Democrats such as the First Lady and former President Bill Clinton.
Clinton is scheduled to attend a fundraiser on behalf of Nunn this Saturday. The event will take place at the Atlanta home of the recording artist Usher.
