John Fetterman, a Democratic mayor of a small west Pennsylvania town, is running to be the Democratic nominee for U.S. Senate in 2016, but he failed to submit financial disclosure forms that are required for all candidates, according to the Associated Press.
Fetterman says that the failure to submit his financial disclosure forms was an "honest oversight" and that it will be filed in the next few days. Candidates are required to disclose on the form the sources of all income and current assets.
Fetterman told the AP that his form will be proof of how little he is worth. His position as mayor of Braddock, Pennsylvania pays just $150 per month and his family lives in a converted warehouse built out of shipping containers.
Fetterman, however, does not cover his family's expenses with his small Braddock salary. He has admitted to getting financial support from his parents to keep up their middle-class lifestyle.
Fetterman is currently polling at about 14 percent but is not far behind frontrunners Katie McGinty and Joe Sestak.
His candidacy continues to receive a considerable amount of national attention despite his underdog status in the race.
The attention can largely be attributed to the fact that his 6-foot-8, 320 pound, tattoo covered frame stands out from the rest of the political class, but his staunchly progressive views have helped him build a competitive fundraising operation.
The Democratic primary election is on April 26.
