President Obama made the "bittersweet" announcement Friday that longtime press secretary Jay Carney would be stepping down.
It's his second major cabinet announcement of the day after Veterans Affairs Secretary Eric Shinseki also resigned earlier this morning. Josh Earnest will assume Carney's role after he leaves for good, which Carney says he expects to be in two to three weeks.
Carney could not specify what he would be doing next. The first Obama press secretary, Robert Gibbs, is currently an MSNBC contributor.
Obama and his chief spokesman hugged it out afterwards.
