The New York Times needled President Donald Trump on Tuesday by printing a list of "7 Shows for President Trump to Watch on His Vacation."
During the 2016 presidential campaign, Trump criticized former President Barack Obama and promised he would not take any vacations if elected. Trump departed the White House for his own 17-day vacation last week, although the White House insists it will be a working vacation.
"President Trump has nearly two weeks left on his working vacation in New Jersey," the Times wrote. "That's a lot of hours for one of his favorite pastimes — watching television."
The four Times critics provide Trump with their recommendations for TV, movies, and plays that he can enjoy during his downtime. "What movie combines two of President Trump's interests — beauty pageants and the F.B.I. — better than 'Miss Congeniality'?" suggests one critic.
"Of course, she's successful, suggesting a degree of competence on the part of the F.B.I. that may or may not suit Mr. Trump at the moment," the article continues.
The other choices are equally antagonistic, such as suggesting a concert film from Neil Young (a vocal Trump critic), the Netflix show "Glow" (which the Times lauds for its coverage of "reproductive choices"), and an episode of "Monk" ("A man dies on a golf course").
Unsurprisingly, the Times theatre critic recommends Trump see the musical Hamilton. "Mr. Trump has already reviewed this juggernaut Broadway musical, on Twitter last November, as 'highly overrated.' But he has yet to see it," he notes.
