The National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) released a new ad on Thursday castigating Sen. Claire McCaskill (D., Mo.) for what it calls her "business plan" to get rich on taxpayer money.
The 30-second TV ad, titled "Business Plan," highlights how the low income housing businesses of McCaskill's husband have received $131 million in federal subsidies since McCaskill took office. The ad went on to say the Washington power couple has pocketed as much as $22 million thanks to taxpayers’ generosity.
"Success is built on hard work and a strong business plan, but Claire McCaskill’s is built off your tax dollars," the ad narrator said. "Since she joined the Senate, McCaskill’s husband received $131 million in federal subsidies, subsidies that let the McCaskills pocket up to 22 million dollars. They built low income housing with your tax dollars, then built themselves a fortune."
"Claire McCaskill. She gets rich. You pay," the ad narrator concluded.
NRSC spokesman Bob Salera slammed McCaskill for getting rich "on the backs of taxpayers."
"While Missourians work hard to provide for their families, Claire McCaskill is funding her lavish lifestyle with their hard-earned tax dollars," Salera said. "McCaskill is supposed to be representing Missouri, but instead she’s building a personal fortune on the backs of taxpayers."
