MSNBC's chief legal correspondent Ari Melber told host Brian Williams on Tuesday that he had not seen "a single glove laid on" Supreme Court nominee Neil Gorsuch during his confirmation hearing.
Williams said he and Melber had been watching the hearing, and thought the saying "it's tough to lay a glove on him" fit the situation well.
"Ari, I think the expression in English is, 'it's tough to lay a glove on this guy,'" Williams said.
Melber agreed, saying that he hadn't seen Gorsuch suffer any notable blows during his hours of answering questions.
"I didn't see a single glove laid on him," he said, meaning Gorsuch was left unscathed.
He complimented Gorsuch by calling him calm and admirable in his answers.
"He performed himself admirably, calmly, and almost all times, and with deep detail, but never much candor about his views, which many experts would say he's not supposed to," Melber said.
