Rob Quist, a Democrat running for Congress, has declined help from the Democratic National Committee for Montana's upcoming special election.

Quist denied an offer to campaign with DNC chair Tom Perez, but he has accepted support from Sen. Bernie Sanders (I., Vt.), the Huffington Post reported Sunday.

frequent performer at a Montana nudist colony, Quist is running a populist campaign in a similar vein to the Vermont senator who beat Hillary Clinton in the 2016 Montana Democratic primary.

Sanders has confirmed that he will campaign with Quist sometime before the special election on May 25. The decision to accept Sanders but reject Perez comes just after the two participated in a "Stand Up, Fight Back" Unity tour aiming to repair divides in the Democratic party.

During the tour, Sanders refused to say that he was a Democrat, although the Vermont senator is a member of Democratic Senate leadership.

The Democratic National Committee declined to comment when the Huffington Post contacted the organization.
