Rep. Maxine Waters (D., Calif.) attended a gala hosted by EMILY's List, a pro-choice group run by women, on Wednesday night in Washington, where she called President Trump a "disgusting, poor excuse of a man."
Waters said that she was "thrilled" by the energy and support she has received from millennials, attributing her popularity to her "resistance" to Trump, the Washington Examiner reported.
She also celebrated a surge in support she's received on Twitter, noting that she has jumped up from 46,000 followers to over 327,000 followers.
Despite this, Waters said she has "decided to put my career on the line."
Though she admits she comes from a district where she has a lot of support, "there are many who do not like what I'm doing."
"But I've decided that no matter those who do dislike what I'm doing, no matter those who disagree with me, I feel absolutely certain that this country deserves better than Donald Trump," Waters said to a cheering crowd.
Waters went on to call the president "disgusting" and said women should not allow anyone to shut them down.
"We will not allow ourselves to be shut up or shut down by anyone, especially this disgusting, poor excuse of a man who's now the president of the United States," Waters said.
Waters also told the audience that Trump should be impeached.
"I'm not afraid of the word impeached," the California Democrat said. "I want him impeached; that is what he deserves."
This is not the first time that Waters has called for Trump's impeachment. She has tweeted about it and recently chanted "Impeach 45" at a rally.
