Liberal Columnist: Clinton Job Comments Were 'Dumb' And 'Stupid'

October 28, 2014

Newsday columnist Ellis Henican said that Hillary Clinton's claim corporations and businesses do not create jobs was "dumb" and a "stupid thing" to say on the campaign trail.

"Well, first of all, it was dumb," Henican told MSNBC host Betty Nguyen on Tuesday. "I don't think she really meant that. Whether you like companies or not, they do create some jobs, as we've discovered. And, please, we need more of them. It was a stupid thing she said on the campaign trail."

Henican said Clinton's gaffe was a failed attempt to show her 'progressive' bona fides in light of rumors of a possible challenge from left-wing ideologue Elizabeth Warren (D., Mass.).

"She's trying to edge against Elizabeth Warren just a little bit. There's a lot of passion on her left among progressive Democrats," Henican said. "It's kind of a way to say, 'I'm a progressive Dem too.' Her record is really not that progressive on a lot of those issues."
