One of the country's leading gun-control political action committees revealed which Republican-held seats they are targeting in the lead up to the midterm elections.

In an email to supporters, Giffords PAC said it will focus its attention on a dozen races across the country which they believe will be key to flipping control of the House of Representatives from Republicans to Democrats.

"Do you know how many seats we need to win in order to flip the House and elect a Congress that will stand up to Trump and the gun lobby? 23," the group said in the email. "Did you know that Giffords PAC is a leading voice in the fight to win 12 of those races? That's more than half of the number we need to flip the House."

The group said they are targeting Republican House incumbents Cathy McMorris Rodgers (Wash. 5th), Jason Lewis (Minn. 2nd), Mimi Walters (Calif. 45th), John Faso (N.Y. 19th), Steve Knight (Calif. 25th), Don Bacon (Neb. 2nd), Vern Buchanan (Fla. 16th), Barbara Comstock (Va. 10th), Mike Coffman (Colo. 6th), and Pete Sessions (Texas 32nd). The group said they would also target Wisconsin's first district in the wake of Speaker Paul Ryan's retirement.

The Nevada Senate race between Republican senator Dean Heller and Democrat challenger Jacky Rosen was the only Senate race among the dozen the group said it would target.

Giffords PAC has spent more money than any other gun-control PAC over the past several years with their expenditures totaling more than $14 million over the past two years, according to documents filed with the Federal Election Commission. The group spent nearly $3.5 million in September alone.

The group's fundraising rivaled that of the National Rifle Association PAC in the aftermath of the Parkland shooting but has since slowed.

The gun-control group, however, has outspent the NRA's PAC in the midterm elections despite raising less. The NRA PAC has spent about $6.8 million in 2017/2018 despite raising over $17.2 million. In September, the NRA raised over $1 million but only spent $167,178.26.

"In a number of these races, we are running large ad campaigns on an issue with near universal support—ads that will flip those seats," the email from Giffords PAC said.

The group then asked for more money to "work immediately in an effort to elect a Congress that will stand up to Donald Trump and to the gun lobby."
