John Dickerson: Clinton Silent on Emails Hoping That Press 'Gets a New Fascination'

Hillary Clinton has made a few appearances since the report that she used a personal email address to conduct State Department business during her time as Secretary of State, but the assumed presidential hopeful has not said a word about it.

Slate columnist John Dickerson said Clinton hopes the press "gets a new fascination" soon so she can stay silent.

When faced with scandal, staying silent is not a new tactic for the Clintons. When the Whitewater probe happened in the 1990s, Bill Clinton remained silent and the media moved on. This strategy may not work as well for Hillary Clinton–in fact, her silence has done more harm than good. In the emails that Clinton has turned over there are several months missing.

"The longer Hillary Clinton sits tight and allows the email collection and vetting ‘process’ to work in the background, issuing assurances that she’s now in complete compliance, the better off she will be," Politico’s Jack Shafer reported. "The press insects will lose interest and move on to other, more juicy sources of meat. A reporter can’t write something about nothing very many times before editors and readers rebel."
