As Hillary Clinton was delivering a speech on her economic vision for America on Monday, she attacked a controversial bank over its "criminal behavior" and proclaimed there should be zero tolerance for such institutions.
"Stories of misconduct by individuals and institutions in the financial industry are shocking. HSBC allowing drug cartels to launder money, five major banks pleading guilty to felony charges for conspiring to manipulate currency exchange and interest rates, there can be no justification or tolerance for this kind of criminal behavior," Clinton said during her speech.
However, despite the rhetoric contained within the speech, the Clinton Foundation has received hefty donations from the bank she chastised.
HSBC, a controversial British bank that has been accused of hiding "millions of dollars for drug traffickers, arms dealers, and celebrities as it assisted wealthy people around the world dodge taxes," has donated between $500,000 to $1,000,000 to the Clinton Foundation.
In 2007, the Clinton’s sold anywhere between $15,001 and $50,000 of HSBC Holdings PLC.
In 2011, Bill Clinton was also paid a large sum to address HSBC Securities USA Inc. in Key Largo, Fla. He received $200,000 for the speech, according to America Rising.
