Shepard Smith has signed a multiyear deal at Fox News Channel to extend his more than two-decade tenure there, the network announced on Thursday.

Smith is the host of the afternoon program "Shepard Smith Reporting" and is frequently the network's go-to anchor for breaking news. Smith, 54, has been with Fox News since its inception in 1996.

"I am incredibly proud to be part of a group of journalists who helped build the FOX news division from scratch 22 years ago and extremely thankful for the opportunity to continue to lead our breaking news coverage for years to come," Smith said in a statement. "Our team’s commitment to delivering facts to our loyal viewers in context and with perspective, without fear or favor, is unwavering. The investment that Mr. Murdoch has infused into our already strong news division affords us endless opportunities. I am excited for the future and honored to continue to call FOX News my home."

Fox News chairman Rupert Murdoch praised Smith in a statement, calling him an "exemplary journalist whose skill in anchoring breaking news is unrivaled."

Smith is known for his humorous and even sarcastic coverage of breaking events, such as hurricanes, solar eclipses and llama chases.
