Florida Democratic state Rep. Darryl Rouson has missed three years of property tax payments and borrowed $20,000 from a relative, according to a Tuesday report in the Tampa Bay Times.

This comes on the heels of news earlier this year that he left the Tampa law firm of Morgan & Morgan.

Rouson denied having financial difficulties.

The Leon County Tax Collector gave Rouson an April 24 deadline that he has since then missed. He declared the error an oversight on his behalf, but the taxes were not paid.

When questioned by a local reporter why he borrowed the money from his relative; the Tampa Bay Times quoted him as saying: "To buy you a birthday present."
