Fineman: Top Democrat Says Schultz Likely to Be Fired From DNC Chair Position

July 24, 2016

high-ranking House Democrat believes Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schulz (D., Fla.) will likely be fired from her role as chairwoman of the Democratic National Committee, Huffington Post writer Howard Fineman said Sunday on MSNBC.

Schultz has already been removed from any role at this week's Democratic National Convention following the leak of DNC emails revealing party higher-ups disparaging and actively working against Bernie Sanders' presidential campaign. Schultz said throughout the primary that the process was not rigged in favor of Hillary Clinton, but Schultz and others' critical emails of Sanders and his team show otherwise.

A "bunch of people should have been fired," Fineman said, and he added he believes Schultz's time as chair is short.

"I spoke to a very high-ranking member of the Democratic leadership in the House, just a few minutes ago," Fineman said. "I said, 'Do you think Debbie Wasserman Schultz is going to remain very long as chair of the DNC? And he said, 'I don't like her chances.' So, whoever else is going to be fired, essentially Debbie Wasserman Schultz has already functionally been fired and soon will be ... She had a chance of lasting until the end of the year. I think that's over."

Sanders repeatedly said during interviews Sunday that Schultz should resign her post.

One particularly damming email even showed DNC CFO Brad Marshall advocating using Sanders' religious beliefs against him. MSNBC host Joy Reid, upon reading that message, wondered how resignations hadn't already occurred after such a damaging leak.
