DWS Claims DNC Did Not Abandon Buono

'I went in to campaign with her'

Chairwoman of the Democratic National Committee Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D., Fla.) claimed the DNC did not abandon long shot New Jersey gubernatorial candidate Barbara Buono (D.) Tuesday on CNN.

Wasserman Schultz listed rudimentary measures the DNC has taken to support Buono, such as sending out email fundraising letters and phone banking as evidence of the committee's support.

The DNC chairwoman noted she herself has even gone to the Garden State to campaign for the doomed New Jersey Democrat:

WOLF BLITZER I know you and the democrats have been working very hard. but it looks like you just gave up in new jersey. not much support for the Democratic candidate against Chris Christie. What happened? Why didn't the president at least go in there and campaign for the Democratic candidate?

DEBBIE WASSERMAN SCHULTZ: Well, the DNC has been involved with Barbara Buono's campaign since the beginning of this year. We've had a staffer assigned to the campaign. We've helped her with digital and phone banking. And I went in to campaign with her. We've actually provided her, we sent some e-mail to help raise her money. So we've been there for her, pretty much every step of the way, but what we're focused on is we've got races all over the country. [...]
