Democratic Rep. on House Floor: GOP Stands for 'Get Old People'

Democratic Rep. Rosa DeLauro (Conn.) strongly opposed the House Republican health care plan in a floor speech on Friday.

"Working people, older Americans are going to pay for a tax cut for the richest people in this nation. Older Americans are going to be hit the hardest," DeLauro said of the American Health Care Act. Not only are they going to get an age tax, but they're going to shift $170 billion out of the Medicare trust fund, a lifeline for older Americans."

DeLauro then turned her focus to the Republican Party.

"And you know what, it makes me believe that this is the case. What does the GOP stand for? 'Get Old People,' that's what this bill does," she said. "That's what people are going to vote yes for today."

DeLauro's time to speak on the floor soon expired.

The Connecticut representative was speaking out against the Republican proposal to replace Obamacare, which is scheduled for a vote on Friday.
