Hillary Clinton said that half of Donald Trump's supporters were part of a "basket of deplorables" who are racist, sexist and Islamophobic during a fundraising event in New York Friday night.
"To just be grossly generalistic, you could put half of Trump's supporters into what I call the basket of deplorables," she said, drawing cheers. "Right? The racist, sexist, homophobic, xenophobic, Islamophobic, you name it ... But that other basket of people are people who feel the government has let them down, the economy has let them down. Nobody cares about them."
The comments called to mind Mitt Romney's remarks in 2012 that 47 percent of the country would vote for President Obama no matter what because they were dependent upon the government and believed they were victims.
