Chris Matthews Suggests Trump Supporters Might Believe Friday Is Saturday if Trump Said So

MSNBC host Chris Matthews berated President Donald Trump's supporters on Thursday, suggesting they might go so far as to believe Trump if he claimed a given day was Saturday even if it were actually Friday.

"If the president were to rise at dawn and say 'it's Saturday' what would be the meaning of that statement?" Matthews asked on "Hardball." He asked a series of questions about how Trump's supporters, "those who back him no matter what," would react to that claim.

"[Would they] check their calendars and convince themselves the calendar they'd been using is wrong and the leader they adore is right?" Matthews asked.

"Would they say he didn't mean exactly it was Saturday but that he was really saying that as President of the United States he was declaring Friday simply the beginning of a long weekend?" Matthews also asked.

Matthews also said that Trump could make up claims "that have no reality," and compared Trump to someone who called the fire department just to hear the sirens.

"He's no better than the weirdo in the basement who calls in the fire alarm just to hear the sirens going past," Matthews declared.
