MSNBC host Chris Matthews praised a guest on his show Tuesday evening for having a "great LDS name," referring to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, whose adherents are known as Mormons.
Boyd Matheson is considering a primary challenge against Sen. Orrin Hatch (R., Utah) and talked about why he was considering the challenge against the senator who is currently the longest-serving Republican in Senate history. Closing out the segment, Matthews made a comment about Matheson's name.
"Boyd, you got a great LDS name, I must say," Matthews said. "Boyd Matheson, that is LDS."
Mormons make up the majority of Utah's citizens.
