Brooks: Hillary Clinton is 'Leaking Air' When it Comes to Her Campaign

September 13, 2015

Vice President Joe Biden’s yet to be determined presidential campaign is already causing problems for Hillary Clinton. In a CNN/ORC poll released Friday, Biden has 20 percent of Democratic and Democratic-leaning voters support while Hillary Clinton has dropped 10 points to 37 percent.

On Sunday’s Meet the Press, Chuck Todd asked New York Times columnist David Brooks where his opinions of Clinton are.

"She is leaking air," Brooks said. "She is an establishment candidate in an anti-establishment year."

Brooks said that Clinton was not creative and needs to be in a year as competitive as this election cycle. Brooks added that imagination is an undervalued trait when running for president.

Brooks also said that the Democratic Party has moved away from Clinton and said that it has to have alarm bells going off all across the party.

NPR’s Maria Hinojosa agreed and discussed when Biden was on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, where he got emotional talking about his son and how authentic and touching the moment was. Hinojosa said that if Clinton could be more fun and continue to dance like she did on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, she would not have a problem with connecting with voters, although some observers have found that approach by Clinton to be too calculating.

National Journal’s Ron Fournier pointed out that when Bill Clinton ran for president in 1992 that he positioned himself as an agent of change, while Hillary Clinton has positioned herself as a part of the status quo. Fournier also said that Clinton has not been able to shake the investigations surrounding her.

Earlier in the segment, Fournier said that if Biden gets into the race, it is going to cut at Hillary’s base and blow her efforts of trying to look authentic and relatable out of the water.
