Sen. Bernie Sanders (I., Vt.) is expected to endorse Hillary Clinton for president on Tuesday after a long and fractious primary fight over which candidate—and which vision of governance, Sanders’ socialism or Clinton’s corporatist progressivism—would represent the Democratic Party in November.
Sanders will encourage his supporters to help Clinton capture the White House, but there was a time not long ago when he thought Clinton was unqualified for the office.
"I don't think you are qualified if you get $15 million from Wall Street. I don't think you are qualified if you voted for the disastrous war in Iraq. I don't think she is qualified," Sanders said in April.
During the primary, Sanders described Clinton’s policy positions and rhetoric variously as "nonsense," "horrific," "unfair," "nasty," "disastrous," and "obscene."
"Secretary Clinton owes us an apology," Sanders told a Wisconsin crowd in April.
