In Tuesday night's State of the Union address, President Obama asked Congress to consider a raise on capital gains taxes for high earners, continuing his administration-long trend of proposing higher taxes.
"As Americans, we don’t mind paying our fair share of taxes, as long as everybody else does too," he said, repeating one of his favorite vapid populist phrases.
"Let’s close the loopholes that lead to inequality by allowing the top one percent to avoid paying taxes on their accumulated wealth," he said. "We can use that money to help more families pay for childcare and send their kids to college."
As the Washington Examiner pointed out Monday, Obama has used all six of his State of the Union addresses, as well as his address to a joint session of Congress in 2009, to push for tax hikes in various forms.
