The Washington Free Beacon’s Bill Gertz joined "The Rick Amato Show" Monday to discuss China’s recent test of hypersonic weapons, saying China’s acquisition of this cutting-edge military technology has contributed to a growing "hypersonic arms race" between China, Russia, and the United States.
"These are ultra-high speed weapons," Gertz said. "They can travel in space at the highest levels of the atmosphere, and China just surprised the world by testing one of their hypersonic vehicles which can be used to deliver nuclear weapons or conventional weapons."
"Now the U.S. and Russia are doing this as well, so it looks like we’re in the middle of a new hypersonic arms race," Gertz warned.
Gertz was also asked about the new book, Duty, by former Defense Secretary Robert Gates, in which Gates criticizes President Obama for his unenthusiastic approach to the military. Gertz responded:
"He’s put a lot of meat on the bones on what critics, including myself, have said, which is that the Obama administration has politicized, in a left-liberal direction, every facet of national security and US foreign policy, and that to me is a very serious problem."
