Todd: Who Fixes Syria?

September 8, 2014

NBC's Chuck Todd posed some difficult questions for the Obama administration's Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL or ISIS) policy on MSNBC's Morning Joe.

The newly inaugurated Meet the Press host said the real challenge facing the United States is how to avoid leaving behind a chaotic vacuum in Syria.

"I think rallying the country by ISIS is one thing," Todd said. "I think the difficulty here is what do you do after? Who fixes Syria? Who is in charge of rebuilding it? Is it the United States' responsibility? That's the issue here."

Todd said that after the United States pulled out of Iraq, "chaos ensued again," suggesting that the same thing would happen in Syria should the United States not implement an effective long-term strategy to stabilize the country.
