Ted Yoho Says ISIL Will Not Be Defeated Without Boots on The Ground

September 11, 2014

Rep. Ted Yoho (R., Fla.) has called for boots on the ground in Iraq and Syria to defeat the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant, arguing that U.S. airstrikes alone will be ineffective.

Yoho said he did not want American soldiers fighting on the ground, but that without ground troops a U.S. assault would be foolhardy and only generate more terrorists by causing civilian casualties.

According to WOKV:

"I’m not looking to engage our men and women, but without boots on the ground this will not work," he says. "Whether they’re Saudi Arabian troops, the Arab League of Nations, Syrian troops, or Iraq troops."

Yoho says airstrikes result in many civilian casualties, which can encourage the creation of more terrorists.

"For every one you kill, you’re going to generate five to ten," he says. "And so, we’re creating a perpetual problem."
