The Department of Justice has cleared the CIA in its probe into enhanced interrogation against terrorists.
"The Attorney General informed me today that, after exhaustive investigations into the treatment of two detainees in 2002-2003, the Justice Department will not bring criminal charges against any Agency personnel," CIA chief and counterinsurgency hero Gen. David Petraeus said in a press release.
AG Eric Holder and Barack Obama invited howls of condemnation in 2009 when they announced that they would investigate CIA personnel who questioned al Qaeda leaders, such as 9/11 mastermind Khalid Sheik Mohammed, during the Bush years.
The practice of waterboarding has been widely attacked on the left and celebrated among national security hawks. The non-lethal practice produced vital intelligence, including the information that led to the killing of al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden, according to former CIA official Jose Rodriguez.
