Max Boot, Senior Fellow at the Council on Foreign Relations, said the current situation in Iraq is a "horrifying scenario" and argued the Obama administrations lack of strategy is concerning in the fight against ISIL.
"I think the situation, Joe, is about as bad as you can imagine, because here you had this fundamentalist Islamist State, very similar to the Taliban in Afghanistan before 2001. And they have taken control of a substantial portion of Syria, as well as Iraq," Boot said on Morning Joe.
Boot then questioned the administrations lack of a clear strategy to destroy ISIL.
"My question is do we have a strategy driving owner intervention and I would point you to the words of Napoleon who said if you start to take Vienna, take Vienna. In other words, if we going to fight these guys, let's do it for real, let’s do it in a way that have a strategy to destroy ISIL," Boot added.
