Krauthammer: McDermott's Tea Party Remarks 'Completely Illogical'

'Some Democrats are beyond embarrassment on this'

Columnist Charles Krauthammer slammed remarks by Rep. Jim McDermott (D., Wash.) Tuesday about Tea Party groups bringing on unfair IRS scrutiny by trying to apply for tax-exempt status in the first place, calling him "completely illogical" on Special Report.

"McDermott is so far in the tank, he's such a lap dog of the Left, he hasn't even received the message from the Democrats that you're supposed to acknowledge it was wrong and to apologize, which was done by the Democrat who was the ranking member on the committee today," Krauthammer said. "McDermott is pretending that somehow it was the fault of the Tea Party because like all Americans, they follow the law, made application for legal exemptions of one kind or another, and were discriminated against. It's embarrassing, but I think some Democrats are beyond embarrassment on this."

McDermott's remarks at the House Ways and Means Hearing also drew an immediate rebuke from Rep. Paul Ryan (R., Wis.) for his implication that Tea Party groups were to blame for being unfairly targeted.

McDermott also said the actions of IRS agents were unfair but a mistake.

"How can you say it's a mistake and unfair and then say you are responsible because you applied?" Krauthammer asked. "That's a contradiction, so he isn't even in the tank. He's completely illogical."
