The House Armed Services Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations received a classified briefing from personnel involved in the response to the terrorist attack in Benghazi, Libya, last year, according to a press release.
Colonel George H. Bristol, USMC, Former Commander, Joint Special Operations Task Force-Trans Sahara, Marine Corps Forces Special Operations Command Africa gave his account of the events of Sept. 11 and 12, 2012.
Bristol said orders changed during the attack response as conditions on the ground evolved. Bristol confirmed previous testimonies that no "stand down" orders were given and that they were ordered to remain in Tripoli to defend the American embassy there.
In an additional update, subcommittee chairman Buck McKeon (R., Calif.) wrote to ask the State Department whether any department personnel had been required to sign non-disclosure agreements after the Benghazi attacks. The department responded, saying no such agreements were requested or required.
