Gen. Allen Slams Trump's Remarks About Generals Being Reduced: 'I Don't Feel Much Like Rubble'

September 11, 2016

General John Allen fired back at Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump regarding his remarks on Wednesday night saying that generals were reduced to rubble under the leadership of President Obama and former secretary of state Hillary Clinton.

ABC's George Stephanopoulos played a clip on Sunday morning of Trump's remarks at the commander-in-chief forum from earlier this week.

"I think under the leadership of Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton, the generals have been reduced to rubble. They have been reduced to a point where it's embarrassing for our country," Trump said.

After the clip, Stephanopoulos asked Allen what he was thinking after he heard that.

"I just shake my head. I don't feel much like rubble. I had the opportunity to participate in a full career for several commanders in chief. As I look around at my peers, I won't start naming names because I would spend the rest of your show doing it. They are some of the finest leaders that America has ever put under stars, whether they're admirals or generals. They are spectacular peers," Allen said.

Allen went on to defend those who he has served with and said that they have not been reduced to rubble.

"In fact, they're some of the finest leaders and national security specialists and authorities that this country has minted in a generation. I was proud to serve with them and i'm proud to have them in their leadership positions in the world today. They haven't been reduced to rubble, George," Allen said.
