National Counterterrorism Center director Matthew Olsen said Wednesday the four Americans killed at the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi, Libya, were killed in a terrorist attack.
"Let me begin by asking you whether you would say that Ambassador Stevens and the three other Americans died as a result of a terrorist attack," Sen. Joe Lieberman (I., Conn.) said, when the hearing opened for questions.
"Certainly on that particular question I would say yes," Olsen said. "They were killed in the course of a terrorist attack on our embassy."
Olsen went on to say question of whether the attack was premeditated is still being investigated.
"What we don't have, at this point, is specific intelligence that there was a significant advanced planning or coordination for this attack," Olsen said. "Again, we're still developing facts and looking for any indications of substantial advanced planning, we just haven't seen that at this point."
