Client 9 Not a Fan of 'Gotcha Journalism'

Eliot Spitzer, the disgraced former New York governor identified as "Client-9" in a federal affidavit relating to a 2008 prostitution scandal, is not a fan of "gotcha journalism."

Spitzer was recently tapped to replace media juggernaut Keith Olbermann as a host on Al Gore’s Current TV network, and expounded on his new role in an interview with Politico.

Now that Spitzer, who resigned from office in 2008 over a prostitution scandal, has spent enough time within the Fourth Estate — he also hosted a short-lived program on CNN — he said, "Yes, I appreciate good journalists a whole lot more."

"I understand what journalists are looking for. I’m not trying to become a gotcha-type journalist. We all know there are gotcha-type journalists. That is not what I want to be for a whole host of reasons. … So I respect it and I have great tolerance when people make a mistake."

Spitzer went on to praise the "avuncular" "doggedness" of MSNBC host Chris Matthews, a competing journalist he admires.
