Writer for The Washington Free Beacon Liz Harrington appeared on The Blaze's Wilkow to discuss the unfolding standoff between the Bureau of Land Management and rancher Cliven Bundy Monday evening.
Harrington said it is unlikely the story would have gotten much play without conservative internet based outlets like the Drudge Report covering the Bunker Hill, Nevada confrontation.
The Free Beacon writer attended a Bundy press conference today where she noted the mood was largely upbeat following the BLM's decision to withdraw their forces and release the cattle.
"The sentiment was they were proud of taking a stand, they wanted to say that they felt like this was a victory but they also caution that this isn’t over, and they’re going to keep fighting," she said.
"They really feel like this is an issue of state sovereignty over this public land and they want it to be ceded back to Nevada. And there’s people from across the country close by in Arizona and Utah, but then there’s others from New Hampshire. Talking to the people in the crowd they all have similar stories, whether it’s the Bureau of Land Management or the Fish and Wildlife Service, or the Forest Service, or National Park Service, they all have these stories of private land or public land that they were owning - whether a railroad came in or another issue they had - pretty much the same stories, legal battles that go on for years and they they’re no match for the federal government."
Harrington concluded the protesters hope to start a national conversation about what they see is an issue of the federal government owning too much land.
