Study Shows Ideological Differences Divide Democrats

More Americans identify themselves as Democrats, but the party has failed to leverage that support into sustained Congressional and White House dominance, a new study shows.

Democrats of different stripes tend to disagree with one another, leading to intraparty fighting and loyalty issues, according to a report by Third Way, a self-described centrist political think tank.

In addition, Democratic-leaning independents also foster a lack of cohesion in the Democratic Party, as they "cannot be counted on to be reliable Democratic voters," the study found.
