Hillary Clinton is set to host a grassroots event in Dallas, Texas on Tuesday afternoon. While she will give her normal stump speech, attendees will not hear Clinton talk about her voting to spend money to build a border fence between the United States and Mexico, according to an America Rising video.
Clinton was asked at a town hall in New Hampshire what she what thought about securing the border between the U.S. and Mexico to prevent illegal immigration. Clinton took the moment to brag about her voting record.
"Well, look, I voted numerous times when I was a senator to spend money to build a barrier to try and prevent illegal immigrants coming in. And I do think that you need to control your borders," Clinton said.
Clinton's comments in New Hampshire contradict her previous statements that she would extend President Obama's executive action on immigration. In May at a roundtable in Las Vegas, Nevada, with undocumented immigrant students Clinton said that she would do everything she possibly could to help immigrants.
At previous events in Texas, Clinton has wanted to build a strong grassroots support from the Hispanic community but has not mentioned her support of a barrier between the U.S. and Mexico.
Fellow Democratic presidential candidate Martin O'Malley hit Clinton on her comments and called them "flat-out" wrong.
The two different comments show that Clinton would say one thing to New Hampshire voters and then say another to those in highly Hispanic populated states shows that she will say what she needs to in order to gain votes.
