Obamacare Enrollment Deadline Extended to Monday

Officials say deadline extended due to 'extraordinary demand'

Government officials have announced that the deadline to enroll in Obamacare has been extended to Dec. 19. The original deadline to enroll was Dec. 15.

Officials say they are extending the deadline to enroll due to "extraordinary demand" at the Healthcare.gov website and the Marketplace call center.

"Hundreds of thousands have already selected plans over the last few days, and nearly a million of you have left contact information to hold your place in line," health officials said. "We want to make sure all of you have access to affordable coverage."

"These additional days will give you a chance to come back and complete your enrollment for coverage starting January 1," they said.

This is the second year that health officials extended the deadline. Last year the agency cited "unprecedented demand and volume of customers" and extended the enrollment period to Dec. 17.
