President Obama’s much-praised fundraising prowess has diminished since the 2008 campaign, Politico reports.
The President is "spending heavily" to raise money and has benefited most from large donors, rather than small, one-time donations that fueled his first presidential campaign.
Politico adds:
Three Obama campaign committees, including two that have higher donor limits, brought in a combined $39.4 million last month.
Compare that to February 2008, when Obama had one campaign committee, which was limited to smaller donations, but still raised $55 million.
While the three Obama committees finished last month with $91 million in the bank, the pace concerns Democrats girding for a general election showdown with Republicans who plan to spend hundreds of millions of dollars on outside advertisements.
