New Australian PM a Friend of Israel

Newly elected Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott will improve Australia-Israeli relations, according to an article by Isi Leibler published in Mosaic magazine.

Abbott has been outspoken about being a friend toward the Jewish state. His election will "represent a sea change in Israel-Australia relations," according to Liebler. Abbott says he will "toughen the government's approach toward terrorist organizations and end financial support for organizations connected to the boycott, divestment and sanctions campaign against Israel."

Previous prime ministers and Australian officials have not been friendly over the past few years.

Leibler says Australian Jews are more inclined to support the center-right Liberal Party over the Labor Party, a shift in recent years.
