Markay: Lack of Young Signups for Obamacare Will Force Insurers to Raise Costs

The Washington Free Beacon's Lachlan Markay appeared on Fox News Thursday to address the concern that the so-called "young invincibles" won't sign up for Obamacare and thus there won't be the influx of money needed for the less healthy.

"It's something we've been concerned about from the beginning of the process, which is that if you don't have enough young or really healthy people but very often young is a proxy for healthy -- if you don't have enough of those people signing up, you essentially don't have people who aren't extracting benefits to subsidize the coverage of people who are extracting benefits, and that's really how insurance works," he said. "If we don't get enough young people, enough healthy people signing up, you're really going to see a problem from the insurers' standpoint, in very likely hikes in premiums and all the problems that come along with that."
