Florida Dem Goes on Taxpayer-Funded Shopping Spree

Charges $3,000 to gov’t credit card for shoes, iPad

A Democratic Florida town councilman is in hot water for making unauthorized personal purchases with his taxpayer-funded credit card.

The Miami Herald reports:

A Medley town councilman has charged more than $3,000 in clothing and electronics on his town credit card since last summer, including a $250 pair of shoes from Nordstrom and an $800 iPad.

When the other council members learned of Councilman Gerardo Silva Jr.’s charges, they cancelled their own cards as well as his. They also instituted a new policy requiring advance approval for council members’ expenses. Silva, who insists all his expenses were legitimate, cast the sole vote against both changes.
