Ellison Barber on Obamacare’s Troubled State Exchanges

The Washington Free Beacon’s Ellison Barber appeared on Fox News’ Real Story with Gretchen Carlson to discuss the harrowing problems plaguing Obamacare state exchanges.

Blue states that backed Obamacare have now found themselves in a bind, Barber said. Those states did not have the federal government run their exchanges and did not do a partnership. Instead, they decided to run their own exchanges, which are still riddled with glitches.

Blue states’ failure to properly create and run their own exchanges essentially negates their argument that the exchanges are not working because Republicans are "stonewalling and obstructing."

Maryland, whose health exchange has experienced has been an utter failure, is now trying to fix the damage by using Connecticut’s blueprint. Barber reported that Maryland estimates they will be able to save $8 million of the current system they have in place, but also estimate that it will cost them between $40 million and $50 million of taxpayer money to create the new system.

Carlson played a clip from the healthcare hearing Thursday during which it was revealed that a California family received an envelope from Covered California, the state’s health exchange. The family found a letter inside discussing voter registration and a registration card pre-marked with an "x" in the box next to Democratic Party.

Barber responded to the incident, telling Carlson, "That’s an incredibly large concern…That’s clearly a violation of election law…It’s something that a lot of people are going to be watching from seeing this one instance…" It could lead to Americans becoming suspicious and wondering how many other incidents like this have occurred, she said.
