Ellison Barber on Obama Increasing the Minimum Wage for Federal Contractors

January 28, 2014

Washington Free Beacon’s Ellison Barber spoke with Fox News’ Jon Scott Tuesday morning about President Obama’s poor poll numbers and his announcement tonight at the State of the Union to raise the minimum wage.

Responding to Scott’s remark that the President’s polling numbers are low, Barber told Scott "In theory it makes sense that people are pessimistic right now because if you consistently look at polls, the issue that people care most about is the economy. No matter how the White House tries to spin it, we still have 6.7% unemployment…At the end of the day, you still have a very big gap in how people have been doing since they’ve been under this President and that’s sort of why you see people being pessimistic."Barber reacted to President Obama’s executive order, issued this morning, that will raise the minimum wage for federal contractors to $10.10 and said the order "is not really anything that changes or creates jobs, it just ups the minimum wage. The problem that people are still worried about is that we don’t have enough jobs, and that doesn’t really do anything to address that problem that people are worried about."

She called President Obama’s executive order an attempt to make the public believe he is doing something boost his low poll numbers.
