Democratic Rep. Debbie Dingell (Mich.) defended the Affordable Care Act on Wednesday, citing her husband and former Congressman John Dingell (D., Mich.) for his help passing Obamacare.
"I can tell you that on behalf of [Rep.] John Dingell, President Ted Kennedy–or Ted Kennedy, should have been–President Franklin Delano Roosevelt, and the generations of other leaders who fought for the right of every American for a quality, affordable health care, we cannot let you take health care away from people who need it most," Dingell said on Capitol Hill.
She was defending the Affordable Care Act after House Republicans unveiled their Obamacare replacement plan on Monday night.
Dingell praised her husband for his work on Obamacare, although he previously received backlash from critics for saying in 2010 that the health care law will "control the people."
"The harsh fact of the matter is when you are going to pass legislation that will cover 300 [million] American people in different ways, it takes a long time to do the necessary administrative steps that have to be taken, to put the legislation together to control the people," John Dingell said on WJR's Paul Smith radio show in Detroit.
