A police department in Canada is threatening drunk drivers with a punishment that is surely cruel and unusual: being forced to listen to Nickelback.
The Kensington Police Service in Prince Edward Island delivered the threat over Facebook with an image of a Nickelback album, the Canadian Broadcasting Company reports.
"And when we catch you, and we will catch you, on top of a hefty fine, a criminal charge, and a years driving suspension we will also provide you with a bonus gift of playing the office's copy of Nickelback in the cruiser on the way to jail," the post read in an address to drunk drivers.
"Now, now, no need to thank us, we figure if you are foolish enough to get behind the wheel after drinking then a little Chad Kroeger and the boys is the perfect gift for you," the post continued.
The police said that the humorous post was designed to start a conversation on the matter.
The message ended with one last plea to drivers, begging them not to force the threat to be implemented.
"So please, let's not ruin a perfectly good unopened copy of Nickelback. You don't drink and drive and we won't make you listen to it."
Canada is a member of the International Criminal Court, where crimes against humanity are tried.
