The Westminster Dog Show will now be sharing the stage with cats for the first time in its 140-year history.
The Westminster Kennel Club and American Kennel Club will co-host an event next week for the prestigious dog show called "Meet and Compete" that will include cats.
"It's a celebration of dogs—and now cats—but it needs to be a little bit of everything for everybody. That's what we like about it," Westminster Kennel Club spokeswoman Gail Miller Bisher told AM New York
In previous years, cats were shown at a "Meet the Breeds" event held separate from the world-class dogs of the Westminster Kennel Club, but the two will merge in 2017.
At a press conference on Monday, one of the "Meet the Breeds" feline participants was previewed. The cat is a three-year-old Bengal by the name of Jungletrax Abiding Ovation from Maryland.
The Westminster Dog Show runs from Feb. 11-14. The "Meet and Compete" event will be held on Feb. 11.
