CBS: Obamacare Delayed Again

February 11, 2014

Businesses across America have received a delay to comply with the Obamacare mandate that they must provide health insurance to their employees.

For the second year, the Obama administration has delayed the mandate for businesses with 50 to 99 employees to provide health insurance or face a fine. The mandate was to start in January 2015, but has been delayed to begin in January 2016. This new delayed mandate will affect 115,000 businesses.

The administration has also issued another large delay: businesses with more than 100 employees must provide health insurance in 2015 to 70 percent of their workforce, instead of the 95 percent originally required. This delay will affect about 100,000 businesses.

These changes only affect full-time employees. Most businesses, those employing less than 50 workers, are not required to provide health insurance.

Republicans have said that these changes show Obamacare's problems- practical and political. John Boehner, Speaker of the House, spoke out against the delays, calling it a rewriting of the law on its on terms by the White House.
